Arne Jacobsen - A brief biography
Arne Emil Jacobsen, (1902 -1971) was one of Denmark’s most successful architects and designers. In particular, he is remembered for developing the ‘Danish Modern’ style was one of the most important contributors to Danish design, especially as a result of the worldwide success he enjoyed with simple but effective chair designs.
After graduating from university, Arne Jacobsen worked in the architect's office of Paul Holsoe. In 1931 he founded his own design studio, which he directed until his death in 1971. From 1956 onwards he also held a professorship in architecture at the Royal Academy of Arts in Copenhagen. Arne Jacobsen, who worked in architecture, interior decoration, furniture, textile and porcelain design, stood out in all areas with his clear styling and the successful combination of form and function. Some of his creations became classics even during his lifetime and can be seen in the film '2001 A Space Odyssey.
