The Eero Aarnio ball shape became the most stylish mean of achieving Aarnio's design brief – to create a “room within a room”.
The Eero Aarnio Egg Ball Chair or Egg Globe Chair was presented to the modern retro furniture world by Eero Aarnio in 1966 at the International Furniture Fair in Cologne Germany. Heralded as the deluxe Egg Ball Chair it was known as a "room within a room" and great for relaxing, reading or even taking a discreet phone call.
Eero Aarnio from Finland has a reputation for eccentric industrial design furniture with a modernism tilt, and he created the Egg Ball Chair by using one of the most simple geometric forms. Simply by cutting off a part and fixing it at one point, Eero Aarnio comes to a remarkable result.
A totally unconventional shaped chair, the egg ball chair or Aarnio egg ball chair has a cosy and calming atmosphere, providing protection from outside noises and giving an individual some private space. Turning around on its own axis on the base the Egg Ball Chair from Eero Aarnio is unique in its own modern retro art world.

Designer Eero Aarnio - a brief biography
Eero Aarnio (born 1932) is a Finnish interior designer, well known for his innovative furniture modern design in the 1960s, notably his plastic and fibreglass chairs.
Aarnio studied at the Institute of Industrial Arts in Helsinki, and started his own office in 1962. The following year he introduced his Ball Chair
Aarnio's designs were an important aspect of 1960s popular culture (though his designs did not reflect this), and could often be seen as part of sets in period science-fiction films. Because his retro furniture modern designs used very simple geometric forms, they were ideal for such productions.
